Celine Thibault

Celine studied apparel design and worked in New York City under a radical women’s wear designer, Jenni Nelson. She directed visual merchandising at TreeHouse, a sustainable home improvement start-up in Texas, and traveled to Northern California to join the wilderness fragrance movement with Juniper Ridge. NYC, Austin, and Oakland have all been called home, but Celine’s from South Louisiana. She revels in big meals, hard work, the hot sun, adventure and storytellers.

In 2014, Celine attended a residency in Oaxaca, Mexico, to explore native plant dyes. At her home studio, she makes apparel and home goods using natural fibers and primitive techniques under the name MOON. The weaving of technology and the tactile and the connections we attempt are at the forefront of her work. Follow her journey at AC4D.

Realme | Testing Value & Building a Business Model

My teammates are Misty and Philip, and we’re piloting Realme–an app that lets you share what you want to share, right where you are. We offer up a space free of curation and judgement by prioritizing anonymity over data-rich profiles. Our design is a reaction to current social media which, despite doing a lot of good, only…

Realm | A Hidden World

Everyone has an opinion on the status of modern teenagers. They spend all their time online, they’re addicted to social media, bullying is everywhere.  The truth is that teenagers are and have always been grappling with the same challenges–living partly in the child’s world and part in the adult world. They are trying to figure out…

USAA Mobile App | Design Strategy

I’ve spent the last 8 weeks refining my USAA mobile banking app redesign–tested it with strangers, broke it apart and analyzed it with my peers, met with a developer to estimate development as well as uncover opportunities for simplification. The final deliverable is a Design Strategy Brief–“a simple, cohesive vision of what you should build…

Product Launch Navigation

This is my studio floor for the night. Not an uncommon sight. I’m drafting my Product Roadmap for a digital app I designed in October. Once you’ve conducted contextual research, synthesized your research into insights, and designed a product or service- it comes time to execute. Sounds straightforward, right? Developing can be an iterative process as…

A Hidden World

Misty, Philip and I researched the effects of social media on the mental health of teens in Quarter two. We spoke with teenagers and high school mentors in Austin, synthesized insights from our conversations, and began concepting at the close of last quarter. We picked back up at the beginning of Quarter three and last…

Evaluating Design Part Deux

I’ve evaluated my USAA Mobile Banking App reDesign using 3 different methods: Think Aloud – User Testing Cognitive Walkthrough – Peer Evaluation Heuristic Evaluation – Peer Evaluation In literature and in class these steps are often presented linearly but that is rarely how they happen in practice. They can be used interchangeably and at many different…

Evaluating Design

Good ideas need evaluation and testing to become meaningful, effective products. In Rapid Ideation & Creative Problem Solving we learned one of the most valuable user testing methods: Think Aloud. As I’ve illustrated below–a new user sits down with a working prototype and attempts to achieve a goal. The tester cannot give any guidance except…

Streaming Ideation

January marks the beginning of our Ideation & Development class. Last quarter we spoke with 15 teens and 4 adult mentors about their experiences with social media and conflict. We met them at school, at home and at work–wherever they felt most comfortable and listened as they shared passion projects, past hurt, and potential future joy.…

Final Round of Wireframes

This week marks the end of Quarter 2 at AC4D. I am amazed by the ideas my peers brought to the table in Rapid Ideation & Creative Problem Solving. We’ve spent the last 8 weeks redesigning a mobile banking app. Each week’s peer critique was an opportunity to conceptualize new ideas and return to the drawing board to try test them…

Integrating New Products into Existing Framework & Wireframes

We’re embarking on our final week in Rapid Ideation & Prototyping and only have seven more days to add to and refine our Mobile Banking Apps. This week, in addition to completing updates developed after last week’s critique and user testing, we were challenged to integrate, A Snapshot of user’s finances & trends Ability to…

Pitch & Putt Service ReDesign

Pitch & Putt is a 9 hole, 3 par golf course in South Austin. It opened in 1951 and has managed to sustain its park-like setting in the middle of a booming city. Misty, Sophie and I have spent the last 6 weeks interviewing Pitch & Putt employees, playing rounds with new and existing customers, finding patterns…

Evolving Up.

Last Friday I saw a film at Violet Crown Cinema in downtown Austin. The theatre is small and cozy and I almost always strike up a conversation before the movie with people seated near me. Last week the woman sitting next to me was texting her daughter and talking to her husband about it. After…

Finding Voice through our Participants

We’ve nearly wrapped up writing insights or provocative statements of truth this week. Our Design Research focus, Social Media Addiction and the role it plays in the lives of High School students, has driven us to dialogue we could not have imagined. We hear the sentiments of older, mostly non-digital generations regarding social media contrasted…

Wireframes: User Testing & Refinement

Wireframes are visual tools to communicate content and user flow in a mobile application or website. I think of them as skeletons because they aren’t meant to define color stories and refined visual design, they are used to lay the foundation for a system. Over the past 5 weeks I’ve worked to improve the interaction in…

Time.

Sunday is my line. It’s the end of the weekend and the end of my week. Typically I spend the day hiking, catching up with a friend or two, and dusting off my neglected furnishings. We are beginning week 5 at AC4D and the past 4 weeks have flown by with no notice of Sunday. We are wrapped up in…
